HIGHLIGHTS STAFF STUDENTS CLUBS HIGHLIGHTS KFDR KFDR is our very own live news station. The KFDR student news team is responsible for producing daily, morning announcements. Alongside the principal, they report the menu for the day, birthdays, college/university profiles and other special announcements. Leader In Me FDR is a Leader In Me School. We believe that every child can be a leader. We infuse the 7 Habits on a daily basis and give our students opportunities to show their leadership skills in various ways. District Champions Our FDR Robotics team is the reigning district champion. Since it's inception, FDR has won three of the four district championships. Also, we are this season's highest scoring RGV FLL team. We earned the highest team score south of San Antonio. QUEST Program Visit the QUEST site to learn about the program and see what students are learning. Holler for a Scholar Every Thursday is College Day at FDR. We encourage students to wear their favorite college/university t-shirt. We also ask that they donate at least 25 cents to contribute to our scholarship fund. Every year we give scholarships to graduating seniors. The receipients are former FDR students. Inspiring Greatness In 2015, to help celebrate our becoming a Leader In Me School and to display the pride we have in our school, every student and staff member designed a tile with their likeness. It helps to show our visitors that even though we all look different we are one FDR Family. Lit for Literacy This year's district theme is Lit for Literacy. As a school, we will strive to read on a daily basis and to increase our fluency and vocabulary. Every school day at 8am, we have Independent Reading time. All staff and students will drop everything and read for 20 minutes. ACE Program WISD initiated an after-school program called ACE (Afterschool Centers on Education). This program provides FDR staff to help students with homework, extra-curricular activities (cooking, painting, sports, etc) and a warm meal for dinner. Box Tops FDR is a Box Tops For Education School. We encourage parents and students to collect and turn in Box Tops. This is a year-round fundraiser that provides extra funds for incentives for our students. Click here to learn more about the program. Social Media Social Media is a major part of many of our lives. Ballete Infantil Folclórico de Weslaco We are extremely proud of our student Folklorico dance group. We are the only elementary in WISD to offer dance instruction. The group has performed alongside the high school groups and have earned high praise. No Bullying FDR staff work hard to ensure there is no bullying at our school. The counselor and teachers work together when an incident arises. Should any parent have a question or concern about bullying, please contact the school. More Starfall More Starfall Reflex Math Reflex Math RM City RM City CLUBS FDR Robotics The FDR Robotics team is the reigning WISD Robotics Champion. The 2018 First Lego League team is the RGV scoring champion. Our score is the highest of all teams south of San Antonio. Jr. Lighthouse Team The Jr. Lighthouse Team is a special group of student leaders that help with awards ceremonies and other special events. Spelling Bee Librarian Mary Gomez coordinates the campus Spelling Bee. Students study words for several weeks to prepare for the school's Spelling Bee. Those that place at the top advance to the district Spelling Bee and represent FDR. KFDR Student News The KFDR Student news team has been delivering high-quality news and daily annoucements for several years. Every year a new crop of 5th (sometimes 4th) graders are interviewed and selected to join the team. Guitar Club The FDR Guitar club is currently the ONLY stringed instrument instruction program offered at the elementary school level in all of WISD. Mrs. Enna Castro prepares the students to perform at the yearly Christmas and Mother's Day programs. FDR Cheerleaders The FDR Cheerleaders help motivate and energize the school during pep rallies and special events. Photography Club The FDR Paparazzi is a group of students that captures the life and memories of our students through a camera lens. Students also contribute photos to the yearbook. The phased in approach allows for a small group of students to gradually (week by week) return to campus over the course of four weeks (September 28, 2020 – October 23, 2020). The student phase in groups will be determined by the district and on the ninth week of school beginning October 26, 2020 any parent who selects on campus learning will be able to send their child to school. Please note at home / remote learning is still an option for parents. As schools begin to prepare for the return of some students to campus, we need for parents to complete a short survey for each student.
